Terri’s Lingering Questions

I’m wondering most about student work. It’s something we’ve looked at in the Teacher Inquiry Workshops, but not talked about much as a group.

I know I’m often guilty of planning what I think are “amazing, fun, engaging” lessons (I hope), but not spending the same amount of time really looking at student work. Peter Elbow talked a lot about LIKING student writing…and LIKING students. I DO like students…now I want to learn more about liking their writing.

How DO we look at students’ work? What can we gain as professionals by examining student work? When should we look at their work? Whose work? How can looking at the work students are producing guide/ shift our planning? Our writing?
