Hello, I am currently a looping ELA teacher at Warwick Valley Middle School. This past year I taught 7th grade ELA and this upcoming year I will be teaching 8th grade ELA. I am excited for the opportunity to teach a new curriculum with the same group of students.
I grew up in the city of Newburgh, and attended NFA. After high school, I got my BA in English and my MAT from SUNY New Paltz. I always knew I wanted to teach but it took me a while to figure it out after high school. I went to SUNY FIT in the city and lived in Manhattan for a year, I did some studying at OCCC as well. Eventually, I figured it out and was overjoyed to start teaching once I got my Masters degree.
I started my teaching career in a whirlwind of leave replacements. My first leave was for 8th grade and 12th grade English at Chester Academy, where I was also able to coach girls Modified volleyball. After that, I did a longer leave replacement for 11th and 12th grade English at Washingtonville High School. I was able to learn a lot from this first year of teaching and use it during my second year teaching 7th grade at Warwick Valley Middle School. I continued coaching at Chester this year as well, and find that I love coaching as well as teaching. I am looking forward to the future, teaching, learning, and growing in my career.
Outside of teaching, there are many things I enjoy. I currently live in Wappingers Falls with my boyfriend of 6 years and two dogs. Last September we bought our house and have had fun exploring all that Wappingers and the surrounding areas have to offer.

Dexter is my 7 year old American-Bull Dog Pitbull Mix, and Zeus is my 5 year old Pitbull-Lab Mix. I’ve had Dexter since he was a puppy and I rescued Zeus when he was a little over a year old. These three guys are my favorite, and I spend most of my time adventuring with them.

Hello! Thanks so much for sharing, Caitlyn, especially the adorable pics of you, boyfriend and furry friends. I also came to teaching later, and I think that gives me a different perspective on the classroom, and what reading and writing can mean in the “real world” as well as school. So excited to have you with us!
